The new MC20 derivative is expected to include aerodynamic enhancements and race-inspired features when it is revealed in the US.
Maserati is set to unveil a new flagship version of its MC20 supercar, inspired by track racing, at Monterey Car Week on August 16. While the exact name and details are still under wraps, the new model is expected to be a high-performance variant of the MC20, drawing from the design and technology of Maserati’s GT2 racer.
Currently referred to only as “the super sports car,” this new model promises advanced aerodynamics and technological upgrades, as indicated by a teaser image that hints at features like carbon fiber flared front wings and new headlights. Maserati has suggested that this vehicle will maintain the MC20’s core performance but will enhance it with racing-derived elements.
We anticipate that the new model will incorporate components similar to those found on the GT2, such as a prominent rear spoiler, front splitter, and modified air intakes, along with significant use of carbon fiber to reduce weight.
The MC20 has previously been updated in the MCXtrema variant, which featured the same 3.0-liter V6 Nettuno engine as the standard MC20 but with improved turbochargers to boost power from 621bhp to 740bhp, along with a six-speed sequential racing gearbox. While the upcoming model may include similar performance enhancements, it is expected to be street-legal, unlike the track-focused MCXtrema.
The new super sports car will be showcased alongside the MC20 Icona and MCXtrema at the event.
